Dear Tom,
In your u3anewsdirect pbwiki on page
http://u3anewsdirect.pbwiki.com/addresses
you state that the Post Towns need to be in CAPITALS, or
a higher postal rate is charged.
However, in the download U3ADirectMailingNotesNEW.doc appendix,
the example which you give does NOT have the post towns in CAPITALS.
Bit confusing?

Hi again Tom. I'm bemused by the bit about Post Towns needing to be in CAPS. Can you point us to the definitive statement about that? Is this something we ALL need to be aware of when handwriting our envelopes as well? How much higher is the postal rate for failing to conform?

No objection to having a nit or two picked - especially big ones - I want to get it right. Sorting for our cheap rate is done by software, not by the chappie what actually delivers it. If the software reads S02 instead of SO2 for a Southampton postcode it will reject it and we get charged more.
Post codes in CAPS - that only applies to the cut-rate stuff and is checked by software. It's what I was orignally told by an expert, but I think I had best find a Royal Mail Expert to check that. I've since learnt that it doesn't matter since all the addresses are converted to Upper Case throughout by the Printer's labelling software.

Hello Tom - Took me awhile to find the other 4 letters needed for the password. Delved back into the Spring issue. Good to read the comments so far.

I seem to be a logged in user but am still anonymous for this comments box. Interesting to see how this is finally added as a comment.
PS. The password was easy to crack as the first address on the email copy list was lin jonas. Do I get a prize?
PPS. this is from Geo at Hagley U3A

From Mo Morgan, Newcastle U3A: not sure how to get out of being an anonymous and into being a Logged in user; and I'm sorry about the initial blank comment (which seems to have been deleted, fortunately). I see that you have discovered that the software sorts out the capitals for the post towns, in fact for the whole address. I'm very happy about that, it will save us having to change each record. I suppose I could have found that out by looking at my U3A News, but having been brought up during the war (anticipatory groans from grandchildren) I had already cut up the page to use as scrap paper. Thanks for such a rapid response. Mo

From Mo Morgan, again, Newcastle U3A: I have just discovered (on my pile of saved plastic envelopes - Oh Granny!) one named "U3A News", with my address - all in capitals!
If the first two characters of the post code are always letters, it's a pity the Printer's labelling software couldn't automatically convert any typed zeros into upper case letter Os in those positions only.

Ok Tom,
Thanks for the help. I signed out and signed in again as me, so.... that's how to find an identity. Wish it was as easy in real life!
Like the wiki very much, it's clear, quick to read and easy on the eye.
